While attending the University of Central Florida, I began working in local and state politics — first as an intern in the Florida Legislature, where I saw how decisions made in Tallahassee ripple back into people’s lives at home. I went on to work on campaigns across Central Florida and later managed a Florida House race. Those experiences taught me how to organize, how to listen, and how to build coalitions rooted in trust and shared purpose. Most importantly, they showed me that real progress starts with meeting people where they are and earning their confidence.

I was raised by a single mom who worked full-time and still had to rely on food stamps to make ends meet. We lived with my grandparents in Jacksonville because housing was too expensive, and I learned early on that you take care of your people because no one else is coming to do it for you.Later, when my mom met my stepdad, Ocala became home too — and the place I spent so much of my childhood growing up.I’ll never forget the day George Zimmerman walked free after killing Trayvon Martin, and how powerless it made me and so many others feel.That moment changed how I saw Florida, justice, and whose lives our system is built to protect.That’s what pushed me to get involved. <h2>Bipartisan Criminal Justice Reform</h2>As a Legislative Aide, I worked directly with Democratic and Republican leadership, law enforcement, and community advocates to help pass HB 7051, Florida’s bipartisan police reform bill.The bill passed the House and Senate with zero “no” votes before heading to the Governor’s desk.I am proud to have directly worked on three major provisions that were originally filed as standalone bills under Rep. Dote Joseph: mandatory excessive force reporting, a duty to intervene, and a duty to render medical aid.Being progressive doesn't mean being performative. It means knowing how to organize, negotiate, and deliver real change — even in a Republican supermajority.That is the kind of leadership I will bring to Tallahassee.

I believe most people in this district want the same basic things: a good-paying job, quality healthcare, strong public schools, clean water, and a home they can actually afford.But instead of delivering that, too many politicians keep siding with the corporations and special interests driving up costs while working families are left to pick up the tab.Rent is too high. Because I don’t believe you can fix a broken system if you’re funded by the same people who broke it.No matter your party, people know something is broken. Tallahassee works too well for insurance companies, utility monopolies, corporate landlords, developers, lobbyists, and political insiders, and too poorly for everyone else.I’m not running to protect that system. I’m running to change it.If we’re going to move Florida forward, it won’t be by playing it safe or promising the bare minimum. Healthcare is a human right. Nobody should have to skip medicine, stay in a bad job, beg an insurance company, or go broke just to get care.I’ll fight for universal healthcare and use every tool we have now to expand Medicaid, open the state health plan, expand KidCare, lower premiums, fund mobile clinics, and address the Black maternal health crisis.

Big investors are buying up houses, and property insurance is making it harder for people to stay in the homes they already have.I’ll fight to build more affordable housing, protect renters and homeowners, limit corporate ownership of homes, protect housing trust funds, and hold insurance companies accountable.

I later served as a Legislative Assistant in the Florida House, where I saw firsthand how challenging it can be to turn good ideas into real policy — and how important persistence, preparation, and collaboration are to getting results. In the wake of the George Floyd protests, I worked on the criminal justice reform package passed in 2021, pushing for accountability and fairness in a system that too often fails our communities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I also helped constituents navigate Florida’s broken unemployment system, working directly with families who were struggling to get the help they deserved. Watching that system fail people in real time reinforced a simple truth: when government doesn’t work, everyday people pay the price.

And for many kids, school is where they get stability, support, and sometimes even their only guaranteed meal of the day.But Florida politicians have turned schools into political battlegrounds instead of focusing on what students and teachers actually need.We’ve seen classroom censorship laws, book bans, teacher shortages, and underfunded schools — all while politicians push privatization schemes that pull resources away from neighborhood public schools.Our students deserve better.I’ll fight to:<ul><li>Raise teacher pay and retain educators</li><li>Fully fund public schools</li><li>Provide universal free breakfast and lunch for students</li><li>Expand career and technical education opportunities</li><li>Keep politics out of classrooms and trust educators </li></ul>

Every child deserves a fair shot, no matter their ZIP code.I’ll fight to raise teacher pay, protect public education from political interference, expand hands-on learning opportunities, and make free breakfast and lunch available to every student in Florida public schools.

Strong Public Schools

Florida’s immigrant communities are being targeted for political gain.Laws like SB 1718 and other anti-immigrant legislation have made families afraid to drive, seek medical care, or report crimes. Workers essential to Florida’s economy are being treated like criminals instead of neighbors.This doesn’t make communities safer. It makes them more vulnerable.I support repealing anti-immigrant laws and passing comprehensive reforms like the Economic Prosperity and Immigration Act, which would:<ul><li>Expand access to state-issued ID so people can drive legally and carry insurance, making roads safer</li><li>End state mandates forcing private employers into E-Verify systems that disrupt local economies</li><li>Create an Office for New Americans to support workforce integration</li><li>Prevent local law enforcement from being forced to act as ICE agents</li><li>Restore due process protections</li><li>Prohibit discrimination based on immigration status</li><li>Ban masked immigration enforcement except when necessary for safety</li></ul>

Florida has been plagued by short-sighted, politically-motivated anti-immigrant policies that demonize immigrant communities, destabilize businesses, separate families, and spread fear. We need an approach that values the dignity and economic contribution of immigrants—not just as workers, but as integral members of the larger Florida familyI'll fight to block state cooperation with mass deportation efforts, restore in-state tuition for Dreamers and TPS holders, and repeal anti-immigrant laws like SB1718 and the TRUMP Act.

Bad growth planning hurts everyone.When development is approved without infrastructure, communities deal with gridlock, flooding, rising housing costs, and declining quality of life.We also need real transportation options. And when they can’t afford utilities either, it becomes a full affordability crisis.I’ll fight to:<ul><li>Hold insurance companies accountable for unjustified rate hikes</li><li>Increase transparency in insurer finances</li><li>Strengthen consumer protections</li><li>Stabilize markets without shifting costs onto homeowners</li></ul>
