<p>While attending the University of Central Florida, I began working in local and state politics — first as an intern in the Florida Legislature, where I saw how decisions made in Tallahassee ripple back into people’s lives at home.<br></p><p>I went on to work on campaigns across Central Florida and later managed a Florida House race. <strong>Those experiences taught me how to organize, how to listen, and how to build coalitions rooted in trust and shared purpose.</strong><br></p><p>Most importantly, they showed me that real progress starts with meeting people where they are and earning their confidence.<br></p>

<p>I was raised by a single mom who worked full-time and still had to rely on food stamps to make ends meet. We lived with my grandparents in Jacksonville because housing was too expensive, and I learned early on that you take care of your people because no one else is coming to do it for you.</p><p>Later, when my mom met my stepdad, Ocala became home too — and the place I spent so much of my childhood growing up.</p><p><strong>I’ll never forget the day George Zimmerman walked free after killing Trayvon Martin, and how powerless it made me and so many others feel.</strong></p><p>That moment changed how I saw Florida, justice, and whose lives our system is built to protect.</p><p>That’s what pushed me to get involved. It’s why I learned how power works. And it’s why<strong> I’ve spent my career taking on corruption, fighting for accountability, and standing up for working people.</strong></p>

<h2><strong>Bipartisan Criminal Justice Reform</strong></h2><p><strong>As a Legislative Aide, I worked directly with Democratic and Republican leadership, law enforcement, and community advocates to help pass HB 7051, Florida’s bipartisan police reform bill.</strong></p><p>The bill passed the House and Senate with zero “no” votes before heading to the Governor’s desk.</p><p>I am proud to have directly worked on three major provisions that were originally filed as standalone bills under Rep. Dote Joseph: mandatory excessive force reporting, a duty to intervene, and a duty to render medical aid.</p><p><strong>Being progressive doesn't mean being performative. It means knowing how to organize, negotiate, and deliver real change — even in a Republican supermajority.</strong></p><p>That is the kind of leadership I will bring to Tallahassee.</p>

<p>After my time in the Legislature, I worked as a digital strategist helping progressive candidates and causes raise the resources they needed to win. <br></p><p>Most recently, I’ve served as a senior leader at Common Cause, a national nonprofit focused on protecting voting rights, fighting corruption, and reducing the influence of big money in politics.</p><p>Working nationwide on democracy reform has shown me that we don’t have to wait on Washington to act. Nobody should have to skip medicine, stay in a bad job, beg an insurance company, or go broke just to get care.</p><p><strong>I’ll fight for universal healthcare and use every tool we have now to expand Medicaid, open the state health plan, expand KidCare, lower premiums, fund mobile clinics, and address the Black maternal health crisis.</strong></p>

Big investors are buying up houses, and property insurance is making it harder for people to stay in the homes they already have.</p><p><strong>I’ll fight to build more affordable housing, protect renters and homeowners, limit corporate ownership of homes, protect housing trust funds, and hold insurance companies accountable.</strong></p>

<p>Public schools gave me opportunities my family couldn’t afford on our own. And for many kids, school is where they get stability, support, and sometimes even their only guaranteed meal of the day.</p><p>But Florida politicians have turned schools into political battlegrounds instead of focusing on what students and teachers actually need.</p><p>We’ve seen classroom censorship laws, book bans, teacher shortages, and underfunded schools — all while politicians push privatization schemes that pull resources away from neighborhood public schools.</p><p>Our students deserve better.</p><p>I’ll fight to:</p><ul><li><p>Raise teacher pay and retain educators</p></li><li><p>Fully fund public schools</p></li><li><p>Provide universal free breakfast and lunch for students</p></li><li><p>Expand career and technical education opportunities</p></li><li><p>Keep politics out of classrooms and trust educators<br></p></li></ul>

<p>Every child deserves a fair shot, no matter their ZIP code.</p><p><strong>I’ll fight to raise teacher pay, protect public education from political interference, expand hands-on learning opportunities, and make free breakfast and lunch available to every student in Florida public schools.</strong></p>

<p>Florida’s immigrant communities are being targeted for political gain.</p><p>Laws like SB 1718 and other anti-immigrant legislation have made families afraid to drive, seek medical care, or report crimes. Workers essential to Florida’s economy are being treated like criminals instead of neighbors.</p><p>This doesn’t make communities safer. It makes them more vulnerable.</p><p>I support repealing anti-immigrant laws and passing comprehensive reforms like the Economic Prosperity and Immigration Act, which would:</p><ul><li><p>Expand access to state-issued ID so people can drive legally and carry insurance, making roads safer</p></li><li><p>End state mandates forcing private employers into E-Verify systems that disrupt local economies</p></li><li><p>Create an Office for New Americans to support workforce integration</p></li><li><p>Prevent local law enforcement from being forced to act as ICE agents</p></li><li><p>Restore due process protections</p></li><li><p>Prohibit discrimination based on immigration status</p></li><li><p>Ban masked immigration enforcement except when necessary for safety</p></li></ul>

<p>Florida has been plagued by short-sighted, politically-motivated anti-immigrant policies that demonize immigrant communities, destabilize businesses, separate families, and spread fear. </p><p>We need an approach that values the dignity and economic contribution of immigrants—not just as workers, but as integral members of the larger Florida family</p><p><strong>I'll fight to block state cooperation with mass deportation efforts, restore in-state tuition for Dreamers and TPS holders, and repeal anti-immigrant laws like SB1718 and the TRUMP Act.</strong></p>
